HATHA YOGA

basic asanas of hatha yoga

Hatha yoga is not exercise. Understanding the mechanics of the body, creating a certain atmosphere, and then using body postures to drive your energy in specific directions is what hatha yoga or yogasanas are about. asana means a posture.

Asana is one of the eight limbs of classical Yoga, which statesthat poses should be steady and comfortable, firm yet relaxed helping a practitioner to become more aware of their body, mind, and environment. The 12 basic poses or asanas are much more than just stretching. They open the energy channels, chakras and psychic centers of the body while increasing flexibility of the spine, strengthening bones and stimulating the circulatory and immune systems. Along with proper breathing or pranayama, asanas also calm the mind and reduce stress. With regular practice one can ensure overall physical and mental health and the possible prevention of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and arthritis. In time, performing the poses slowly and consciously, becomes a mental exercise in concentration and meditation.

BASIC ASANAS

Headstand (Sirshasana) Shoulderstand (Sarvangasana) Plough (Halasana) Fish (Matsyasana) Sitting Forward bend (Paschimothanasana) Cobra (Bhujangasana) Locust (Shalabhasana) Bow (Dhanurasana) Spinal twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana) Crow (kakasana) peacock (mayurasana) Standing forward bend (Pada Hasthasana) Triangle (Trikonasana)

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian system of natural and holistic medicine. When translated from Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “the
science of life” (the Sanskrit root ayur means “longevity” or “life” and veda means “science”).

Sprouted in the pristine land of India some 5000 years ago, Ayurveda is the oldest healthcare system in the world and it combines
the profound thoughts of medicine and philosophy. Since then Ayurveda has stood for the wholesome physical, mental and
spiritual growth of humanity around the world. Today, it’s a unique, indispensable branch of medicine, a complete naturalistic
system that depends on the diagnosis of your body’s humours – vata, pitta and kapha – to achieve the right balance.
